Strike action bibs flags Northern Ireland

The NASUWT – The Teachers’ Union is holding its Annual Conference in Enniskillen this weekend and motions on a wide range of issues affecting the teaching profession and education will be debated.

NASUWT General Secretary Dr Patrick Roach and NASUWT Northern Ireland President Sally Rees will speak to the Conference. Debates will take place throughout Saturday.

The Conference takes place as members across Northern Ireland are involved in a campaign of industrial action (Action short of strike action) in the absence of an acceptable pay offer.

Dr Patrick Roach, NASUWT General Secretary, said:

“Day in, day out our members are rising to the challenge, putting themselves on the line to secure the future of Northern Ireland’s children.

“And yet despite this teachers have not seen an acceptable pay offer for 2024/25, which is an insult to their dedication and hard work.

“NASUWT members will be united in their resolve to ensure that their pay is addressed as soon as possible.”

Justin McCamphill, NASUWT National Official Northern Ireland, said:

“NASUWT members from across Northern Ireland will be sharing their experiences of providing high-quality education
despite feeling they are getting little recognition in terms of their pay and conditions of service.

“Their resolve to take part in action short of strike action is undiminished and we must see an improved offer without strings attached.”
