Members of NASUWT-The Teachers’ Union at King Edward VI Grammar School (KEVIGS) in Louth will be taking the first of six planned days of strike action tomorrow (Thursday) over adverse management practices which are having a negative impact on teachers’ workload, working hours and working conditions.

Dr Patrick Roach, General Secretary of the NASUWT, said:

“The expectations on teachers at King Edward are simply not sustainable or fair.

“The current structure of the school day is eroding time to teach the curriculum and undermining opportunities for pupils to learn.

“Exhausted and stressed teachers cannot deliver the best standard of learning to pupils. We urge the employer to recognise the need for change and agree to work with us in the best interests of both staff and pupils at the school.
 
“We have set out to the employer the changes to the timetable and to teachers’ working time that we are seeking and have given them every opportunity to work with us. It is therefore very disappointing that they have refused to listen to and adequately address the concerns of their staff.

“Members are clear that things cannot continue as they are at King Edward (KEVIGS) and we once again urge the employer to recognise the seriousness of the situation and agree to take the steps necessary to resolve this dispute.”
