Commenting on the Spring Statement, Dr Patrick Roach, General Secretary of NASUWT - The Teachers' Union, said:
“This government has high ambitions for our children and young people, who deserve nothing less.
“After the profound damage caused by fourteen years of austerity, it is clear that high ambitions for children and young people cannot be delivered on a shoestring.
“It is welcome that the Chancellor remains committed to investing in our schools and colleges, but the scale of the challenge should not be underestimated.
“The success of our education system hinges on the recruitment and retention of teachers, and appropriately funded resources for schools, colleges and wider children’s services. We will be looking carefully at how the government continues to invest in all areas of education and wider support for children, young people and families to ensure that teachers can provide the world class education that all pupils deserve.”
