Commenting on today’s announcement that the Government will review the mainstream free schools planned by the last government that have not yet opened, Dr Patrick Roach, General Secretary of NASUWT – The Teachers’ Union, said:
“A world class education system depends on equality of opportunity and structures that meet the needs of all children and young people.
“It has become increasingly clear that planning of school places must be led by the evidence on changing pupil numbers and needs. It is right for the Government to review plans for new free schools to make the best use of the resources available.
“NASUWT welcomes the Government’s decision to carry out this review in partnership with the sector. It is imperative that we work together to create the conditions for all schools and their pupils to succeed.”
