Casework assistance is available in connection with matters arising from teaching employment to full members, as well as to retired, former, career break and associate members who were in membership of the NASUWT and paying a subscription at the time the issue arose, and, in the case of former members, providing they have not joined another teacher trade union.

In addition, members of the NASUWT for whom subscription has been waived by the Union, e.g. because they are newly qualified, are entitled to casework representation.

Student members are entitled to casework assistance for relevant matters arising out of a school placement, providing they were in membership at the time the issue arose.

Members who are three or more months in arrears with their subscriptions at the time the issue arose are not entitled to casework representation and cannot establish entitlement to representation by subsequently paying arrears.
